Having responded to his advert in Loot (or was it the other way round?) I met Martin Muscatt in 2002. Realising we shared a love of old music (The Faces, Stones, Neil Young, Little Feat, Joni, Stevie, Otis, Janis, Al... Motown, Stax..... so the list goes on) and both needing an outlet for our own songs, we formed HERCULES.
Produced by Mick Jones we recorded the single 'Soho Cry/Lonely Child' at Beethoven Studios.
Martin and I are both Londoners-West and North respectively. I wrote Soho Cry about a particularly debauched night in Soho following a trip to the body piercing shop. Martin's Lonely Cry was another London story about a lost soul he met on his patch: Ladbroke Grove.
With Chris Draicy on bass and Simon Strong on drums (and sometimes joined by Freeman Bailey on mouth harp) HERCULES gigged around London building a steady following.
The EP 'Back to the Grove' was recorded by Robin Tombs at Signal, Mick's studio in West London.
HERCULES is lying low.
